Litterae Program

The Litterae (Latin for “letters”) program at Grace Academy has been designed to help provide a solid, developmentally appropriate, classically-oriented language arts core class to the late grammar or dialectic pupil who has a different reading or writing level than their age peers. We seek to give them a thorough preparation for the other grammar or dialectic level classes that are offered at Grace Academy, which will also give them concurrent language arts support for any academic studies they may be participating in. The highly individualized instruction of the Litterae program will include:

  • Reading/Literature
  • Intensive Grammar Component
  • Classical Writing
  • Spelling/Vocabulary/Handwriting

In keeping with Charlotte Mason’s philosophy in regards to children’s time, and always seeking to respect the importance of the parent’s role in a child’s education, we offer this program for two mornings per week (Tuesday and Thursday) from 10:30 – 12:30 a.m. and will be limiting the class size to 7 pupils maximum. Similar to our other classes, pupils will be expected to carry out independent assignments in between classes, in order to complete the entire curriculum during the course of the academic year. While the intention is to ultimately have a different Litterae class at each age-level (10 years old through 13 years old) the nature of the instruction and pacing of material is such that we can often accommodate pupils of differing ages, depending on their academic background.

Assessment of each incoming pupil’s reading level and academic development is vitally important for this personalized program, so placement testing is required before beginning Litterae. Grace Academy will schedule appointments during one of our testing days at the end of the academic year prior to a pupil’s entrance.

Yearly tuition for the Litterae program is $1440 ($10/hr for a 36 week academic year) payable in 3 payments of $480 (due at the beginning of each trimester). There will also be a book fee which will be assessed once the specific academic program for each pupil has been determined.
