Ludus Program

The Ludus (Latin for “school”) program at Grace Academy has been designed to help provide the early grammar-level pupil with a solid foundation on which to build, once they begin their more formal academic studies later. We seek to give them a thorough preparation for the upper-grammar level classes that are offered, by complementing and “rounding-out” our Classical Writing and Introductory Latin classes with this language arts core program. Using the tried and true techniques of narration, memorization, copywork, dictation, and reading lots of living books, the completely individualized instruction of the Ludus program will include:

  • Bible
  • Reading/Literature
  • History
  • Spelling/Vocabulary/Handwriting

In keeping with Charlotte Mason’s philosophy in regards to children’s time, and always seeking to respect the importance of the parent’s role in a child’s education, we offer this program for four mornings a week (Monday – Thursday) from 9:15 – 11:15 a.m. and will be limiting the class size to 7 pupils maximum. While ideally suited for the 4th grader (about 9 years old) who is getting ready for the more rigorous and independent work required in the Upper Grammar level, the nature of a tutorial is such that slightly younger or older pupils may also be able to be accommodated.

Assessment of each incoming pupil’s reading level and academic development is vitally important for this personalized program, so placement testing is required before beginning Ludus. Grace Academy will schedule appointments during one of our testing days at the end of the academic year prior to a pupil’s entrance.

Yearly tuition for the Ludus program is $2880 ($10/hr for a 36 week academic year) payable in 3 payments of $960 (due at the beginning of each trimester). There will also be a book fee which will be assessed once the specific academic program for each pupil has been determined.
